Social Impact Journalist Intern

We are seeking a driven intern to join our team, passionate about supporting freedom of press. This role provides an exceptional opportunity for a young journalism student or activist to gain hands-on experience in journalism and advocacy work within Free Press Alliance

Responsabilities

Journalism Support:

  • Assist in researching and writing articles and reports on topics related to freedom of press and the rights of journalists.
  • Conduct interviews with journalists, activists, and experts to gather insights and perspectives on current issues affecting freedom of press.
  • Help monitor and document cases of freedom of press violations and censorship around the world.
  • Contribute to the creation and edition of multimedia content, including videos, and infographics, to support our advocacy efforts.

     

Advocacy and Outreach:

  • Support the planning and execution of campaigns and events aimed at raising awareness about freedom of press issues.
  • Assist in the development of advocacy materials, including fact sheets, policy briefs, and social media content.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences with partner organizations, policymakers, and stakeholders to advocate for freedom of press.
  • Engage with the Association’s supporters and followers through social media and other digital platforms to foster community engagement and support for press freedom initiatives.

Research and Analysis:

    • Conduct background research on relevant laws, regulations, and policies affecting press freedom and journalists rights.
    • Analyze trends and developments in freedom of press globally to inform our advocacy strategies and campaigns.
    • Prepare summaries and reports on key findings and recommendations for internal and external use.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled/recent graduate in a university degree in Journalism, Communications, International Studies , Human Rights, or related field.
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Passionate about freedom of press, human rights, and advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital communication tools.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in writing and publishing articles or reports.
  • Familiarity with freedom of press issues and the media landscape.
  • Understanding of digital marketing and online advocacy strategies.
  • Previous internship or volunteer experience with non-profits, media organizations, or advocacy groups is a plus.
