On Monday, July 21, radio broadcaster Erwin Labitad Segovia, known on-air as “Boy Pana,” was shot dead while riding his motorcycle shortly after finishing his morning radio program. He was rushed to a hospital in Bislig City but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Segovia was known for hosting a radio show on local governance and social issues on WOW FM. He was also involved in the campaign efforts for local mayor Carla Lopez-Pichay during the May mid-term elections.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation, activating the Special Investigation Task Group on New Cases and initiating a hot pursuit operation to apprehend those responsible.
At Free Press Alliance, we strongly condemn the killing of journalist Erwin Labitad Segovia. We urge the Philippine government to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The safety of journalists is essential to a free and democratic society.
